CYTOMEGALIC INCLUSION DISEASE

A three-month-old baby died after a period of persistent cough and dyspnea and abrupt onset of respiratory hemorrhage. Necropsy findings showed hepatosplenomegaly and pneumonic lungs. On microscopic examination, large cytomegalic cells that contain intranuclear inclusions were demonstrated in hepatocytes, pneumocytes, myocardial cells, renal glomeruli and tubules. Also numerous typical lymphocytes in the red pulp of spleen and encephalitis marked by mononuclear perivascular cuffing.
